I know Mifsud is one great player. Is he hailed as Malta's best player?

m mifsud is a very good player, very fast and quite talented but unfortunately he's not playing competitive football, as he spent the last 7 months without a club. He only trains with the national squad. So right now, No, i don't think he's the best maltese player.

I don't consider Michael as malta's best player. He scored some goals in England's Championship but in my opinion he's still behind former players Raymond Vella, Carmel Busuttil and Johnny Buttigieg. The current best player is by far Valletta's Captain Gilbert Aguis Smile

I think the best player of all time is Tony Nicholl who played for Sliema W. but he played in 1930s till 1945 so almost no one remember him play. But from what i had read about him it makes you tell he is easily the best. He was wanted by Southampton & River Plate but he did not wanted to leave his family behind.

From my time I say is Carmel Busuttil the best that I had seen.

heard lots of good things about tony nicholl, but of course i don't remember him playing. Another great player from that era was Salvinu Schembri, which, if i'm not mistaken, was transfered to Valletta FC for a huge sum in those days.

knightof malta, you are quite wrong about tony nicholl,he kept playing for sliema until 1956/57 season, and if my memory serves me right his final game was against valetta, which Laughing Laughing h unfortunetly we lost to the tune of 7 nil,but at least we got our own back by thrashing sliema by the same score a couple of season later, that made us even.and i remember both players quite well ,even though they were nearing the end their career ,for me the best player was and still is SALVINU SCHEMBRI.

Have any of these players been selected to play in such leagues as the EPL, Serie A, La Liga? Or, is it mainly island teams and National?

I think you are right Fabregas he was old when he retired but as far as I know he never played for Malta he always played for MFA XI so that what made me think he stopped in 1945 because Malta's first match was in 1945.

I stand to be corrected.

Wrong again, knight, malta's first international was against Astria in 1957,a game we lost 3 2 after being 3 0 down at one stage of the game.
